Exclusion

In plain terms: What a policy says it will NOT pay for — every policy has a list, and it matters as much as what's covered.

Why it matters to you

Most coverage surprises are exclusions discovered after the claim: delivery runs declined on a personal auto policy, alcohol-service claims excluded on general liability, your own faulty work routinely excluded. Reading the exclusions list is the fastest way to understand what you actually bought.

Where you’ll see it

In the policy itself, usually as a numbered "Exclusions" section per coverage part — and in the carve-outs ("except…") inside definitions.
